Please join us on January 13, 2026 at the Montgomery Inn for a presentation by Duncan Paterson, NSBA Director of Bridge Education with AISC, regarding efficiency in steel bridge design.
Success and efficiency in steel bridge construction is related to choices and decisions made during the design process, and how these can then influence the fabrication and construction of the bridge project. Decisions regarding the bridge framing plan, girder proportions, diaphragm types, and deck placement affect the stiffness and the stability of bridge system during construction, and how the bridge performs while in-service. Other choices can affect the fabrication and shipping of the bridge components, as well as future maintenance and inspectability while the bridge is in service.
This presentation will focus on recent developments and guidance provided for the steel bridge industry that can help you achieve efficiency in steel bridge designs. This will include discussions regarding the new AISC/NSBA Standard Plans for Steel Bridges, the NSBA publication on Achieving Speed in Steel Bridge Fabrication, recent and upcoming AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration Guidelines, as well as important revisions in the 10th edition of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
